Stayed home sick, so I made a mini-zine to vent. I sure hope I feel better tomorrow!
Been reading an interesting book “Girl Zines” by Alison Piepmeier and it had really opened my eyes into how zines helped shape third wave feminism. Not to mention the creativity and effort involved in producing them. I then remembered that I had bought the Mellow Yellow issues from Auckland Zinefest and began to read each one from 1 – 4 in one sitting.
Note: Mellow Yellow is a kiwi zine that focuses on Asian Feminism and the like. You can check out their blog here.
I think its interesting how most of us can go through our daily lives being ignorant about our representation in society, and resort to staying quiet about the serious stuff to avoid ruining the status quo. Then you read about it and it all makes sense. Reading the articles also made me think a bit about being a kid at school and publicly rejecting things that I liked or the culture I was a part of because it wasn’t the “right” thing to like or do. I will probably go more into that another day.
Reading about zines again prompted me to go have a reading session in the library haha.
Page from a cool zine, with cute pictures. Love this aesthetic. I believe it was called “Perpetual Companion – Issue One”. These are poems written by kids. Adorable!
Another page from the same zine. Did I already say I love this aesthetic!? Cos I really do!
