Honestly, I’ve been feeling a bit down about some stuff in the past month. I think its from bottling up some feelings. I’ve always struggled with anxiety and it used to affect me a lot, especially as a teenager. A few years ago, I have learned to deal with it and I realise that anxiety does not define me .. its just a part of me and there’s a multitude of other things that make me who I am!
Anxiety is like taking a step you didn’t know was there, lifting an object that you think is heavy but isn’t or the feeling you get as if you were in a haunted house .. but for a longer period of time and usually in a seemingly ‘normal’ situation.
Sometimes, these negative thoughts will still pass through my mind and it annoys me to no end. I’m like “Shut up, brain”. But it’s good to express these feelings to get them out of your system, whether its ranting to close friends or by writing in a private journal otherwise the thoughts will just keep building up till it drives you mad.
Just gotta remember to be mindful and be grateful for the things that make one happy.
Phew, now that’s outta the way – let’s get on to happier stuff~ (/^▽^)/
1) Discovering awesome artists on Instagram.
Anoosha Syed – Discovered her from seeing a post about her drawing Disney princesses as modern girls ~ love the concept. This is Ariel from The Little Mermaid.
Jinx – Lovely pop style artwork
Wadachizu – My friend Chloe originally introduced me to this artist. Has a ‘creepy cute’ vibe that I love.
I miss keeping up to date with artists!
I haven’t sung in forever, so it was nice getting back to it earlier this week. So much fun singing the two Osomatsu-san opening songs haha! They get me so pumped up.
A friend had a BBQ event, and it was cool seeing people again and playing games! =u= Games are so much fun ahaha. Also attended the wedding of my former team leader. Was such a beautiful ceremony and good to see my former co-workers again~ ^o^
4) Lantern Festival
The Lantern Festival is a yearly event with food stalls, Arts ‘n Craft stalls and several performances celebrating Chinese culture.
In China, it would mark the last day of the Lunar New Year celebration. Traditionally, children would go out at night to visit temples with their paper lanterns and solve riddles on the lanterns displayed.
It was at the Auckland Domain this year, and I’m glad we all decided to go at 5.00pm cos it was quite a good number of people at that time~ not too crowded, reasonable lines. After 7.00pm, it was insanity and it was difficult to push through the crowds. It was kinda funny cos sometimes we’d all be trying to get through .. but then if we passed a lantern, everyone would grab their phones and start snapping .. causing a delay (including me, soz).
It was great just being with friends though! I swear most of the time we were just looking for each other haha. The lamb kebabs, and the mango lassi were also good mmm.
5) Arigato Internet
Arigato Internet by Reese Lansangan was released on Spotify, so had a chance to listen to it at last. I have loved her music since I saw some clips on Youtube. She writes songs with unique lyrics and catchy melodies. Its quite inspirational how she sings about whatever she likes to, even if its a seemingly random topic (like a song about space and grammar nazi hehe). It’s cool. Kyaa, I will need to get a physical copy of this album sometime!
I find a lot of things inspiring about Reese ;u; her artwork, songs, attitude, fashion and the fact that most of her ventures are through independent means! So talented, quirky and smart.
6) Global Game Jam
Attended my first Global Game Jam with Will. We made a typing game with cats in it. Meow galore! A proper version will be released sometime in the future.
I feel so pumped to do another game jam soon! There always seems to be one going on online … and the next one coming up is in NaNoRenMo in March. Hmm, very tempting.
7) Signed up for Overload!
I will be selling my artwork at Overload with three awesome (and geektastic) people – Amey, Angie and Melon ^^ It’s gonna be pretty exciting with it being in The Cloud this year~
I’m also trying to learn a little kanji everyday with the help of Wanikani! It’s my ‘Don’t break the chain’ challenge. Yes, yes I’ve tried learning several times but I always gave up too easily … I’m not gonna be super committed at the moment since I have higher priorities at the moment. But, who knows … maybe this passive learning will pay off when I have more time to focus on learning Japanese, especially when I don’t have any prior knowledge of the characters. がんばります！
9) This dog
[Source] A bit of an unfortunate situation to be in, but omg he’s so cute and seems uh … pretty content with his situation. D’awww, silly cute dog. Like wow.
